As legends in the advancement of the California wine industry, Robert and Margrit had an artistic sensibility that enveloped their love of wine, food and the arts. They were pivotal as founders of such local institutions as Copia: The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts, Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, the Robert & Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts (both at UC Davis), the Napa Valley Opera House and of course, The Oxbow School.

While their profound impact on the Napa Valley exists in perpetuity, Robert and Margrit will forever be remembered at Oxbow for their generous involvement and artistic envisioning of its founding. In 1998, along with co-founder Ann Hatch, Robert and Margrit sought to create a studio art environment where artists, faculty and students would collaborate in the practice of intellectual investigation and artistic inquiry. Together they mobilized their community of friends and supporters to bring their unique, ambitious vision to fruition.

Since that time, over 1,700 art students from around the globe have thrived at Oxbow, and have taken this singular experience back into their families and communities, having a profound impact on their growth, development and world view. And for many, their art practice continues to weave throughout their daily personal and professional lives.
